Banner Series: Personal Diatribe
Coupled with notions of communication, interaction, and aesthetics, this body of work focuses on how our experiences between individuals are mediated and formed in space and time. Throughout history, flags and banners have been used to (visually) signify constructed nationalism in order to identify territorial markings. My banner series entitled, Personal Diatribe, is a way for me to deconstruct and question my understanding of reality in order to make my mark through my own unique iconography. Creating a symbol system heavily influenced by diagrams makes these objects both personal and impersonal. This illustrated symbolism is created through personal experiences and daily. In many ways, I have attempted to contextualize my own reality though the construction of these banners.
